BACKGROUND: Founded in April 1994, The Humsafar Trust (HST) is India’s first community-based organization (CBO) of self-identified homosexual men, MSM, Hijras and LBT persons. The HIV interventions of HST are supported by National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) and Mumbai District AIDS Control Society (MDACS) to provide health services to Men who have sex with men (MSM) and Transgender communities every year through Public Health Care delivery systems and its In-house clinics. HST organises advocacy workshops for health care providers, law enforcement agencies, judiciary, legislators, politicians and political parties, Government bodies, media, student community to sensitize them on Gay, MSM and TG issues. HST also provides legal support, crisis management, mental health, and nutrition counseling to its communities.

About Project  

The Humsafar Trust (HST) has been awarded the project which is supported by PATH funded by CDC India “Project SASHAKT ”. HST will play key roles in implementing capacity building and Peer led approach for reaching unreached population with HIV services and community strengthening. The project aims to conduct capacity building activities for community strengthening, with the objectives to implement different modalities of outreach, increasing testing, adding virtual outreach and demonstrating U=U among PLHIV population through community engagement.

ToR for Non TI Outreach Worker: 

  • Mapping of unreached site /hotspots/ KP for HIV prevention and treatment services 
  • Outreach the unreached at -risk to HIV, including high-risk HIV negative and known PLHIV and provide the HIV and STI services. 
  • Risk profiling of unreached population through physical outreach 
  • Test high-risk HIV negative (high case finding) through facilities and CBS method  
  • Organize the HIV/ STI testing camps at Non TI intervention sites 
  • Support in implementing the Party and Spa intervention  
  • Linkages of screen positive individuals for Confirmatory and CST services 
  • Initiate known PLHIV and newly diagnose HIV positive on ART treatment  
  • Link the Key Population to Targeted Intervention project as per their willingness. 
  • Implement Social Network Model (SNM) to identify more HIV positive cases. 
  • Provide information on PrEP for high-risk HIV negative individuals.  
  • Consistence follow-up to take of positive client maintaining ART Adherence  
  • Provide information about the U=U to the clients  
  • Promoting and supporting behavior (BCC) to increase prevention practices.  
  • Maintain line list of all Non TI registered population  
  • Compilation and timely submission of outreach data 

Minimum Qualifications and Skills required. 

  • Display a clear commitment to the community work 
  • Knowledge of more than two languages is preferred 
  • Communication skills with the community and staff should be excellent  
  • Educational qualifications are not of importance. Ability to read write Hindi and Marathi is essential 
  • Ability to penetrate into the community networks should be high 
  • Confident of one’s sexuality and courage to work in tough and hard work environments 
  • Experience of working with the community and relevant field is added incentive
