About The organization: 

Founded in April 1994, The Humsafar Trust (HST) is India’s first community-based organization (CBO) of self-identified homosexual men, MSM, Hijras, and LBT persons. The HIV interventions of HST are supported by National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) and the Mumbai District AIDS Control Society (MDACS) to provide health services to Men who have sex with men (MSM) and Transgender communities every year through Public Health Care delivery systems and its In-house clinics. HST organises advocacy workshops for health care providers, law enforcement agencies, judiciary, legislators, politicians and political parties, Government bodies, media, and student community to sensitize them on Gay, MSM, and TG issues. HST also provides legal support, crisis management, mental health and nutrition counseling to its communities. 

The Humsafar Trust has been awarded a Global Fund Project as a sub-recipient to PLAN India to build a strong, sustainable, and resilient mechanism to address the needs of the key population through a community response. The proposed project focuses on creating an enabling environment by addressing structural barriers including stigma and discrimination that affect access to HIV related services and social entitlements. The project would be implemented in hard-to-reach areas and would target the unreached population. Through this project, we also aim to provide access to HIV related services, and social protection services and link them with skill development opportunities to unreached FSW, MSM, and TG populations through a people-centered, community-specific HIV-SRH service delivery model in the intervention districts.

Job Responsibilities: 

The Project Manager will oversee the activities of the project. This position will be responsible for the overall implementation of the project by HST as proposed in the grant. They will ensure all timely reporting to donor agencies and liaise with NACO, SACS, DAPCU, and donor agencies.  

  • Review and analyze the project-specific plans and priorities,  
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly & yearly reports and other relevant information.  
  • Work in close collaboration with project partners in India to design and revise project annual work plans.  
  • Maintain the project work plan updated in accordance with project activities and timeframes.  
  • Responsible for the implementation of activities regularly to measure achievement against the performance indicators.  
  • Review the quality of existing data in the project subject areas.  
  • Check data quality with partners.  
  • Provide support to the PD for ensuring the effective management of the budget assigned to project activities in India.

  • Prepare briefs, and provide inputs to project technical reports and updates regarding activities implemented in India, as scheduled and upon request. Provide inputs to the project mid-term and final evaluations. 

Qualification, Experience and Competencies: 

  • Master’s degree in social sciences, Health, Development, or equivalent discipline 
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible project management experience in public health, at the national level 
  • Experience in HIV/AIDS sector  
  • Experience of collaborating with community organizations and groups to deliver excellent HIV and health interventions.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of advocacy initiatives and project management. 
  • Experience in providing technical support to, and capacity building of organizations, especially those working with key populations at the grassroots level (MSM and FSW groups) 
  • Strong commitment to team-working, collaboration, consensus building, and negotiation. 
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively in teams as well as independently. 
  • Ability and willingness to undertake travel approximately 40% to 50% of the time primarily within India where the programme is being implemented. 
  • Proficient in English, Hindi, and any other regional language of India 

Time Involvement: 

  • Project Manager will devote 100% time to the organization.
