Communications Coordinator

Organisation Background :

The Humsafar Trust (HST) is India’s first community-based organisation (CBO) of self-identified gay men, men who have sex with men (MSM), Hijras, transgender, and lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LBT) persons. 

HST works across advocacy, health, and rights, engaging healthcare providers, law enforcement agencies, judiciary members, legislators, government bodies, media, and students to sensitise them on issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and public health. The organisation also provides legal support, crisis intervention, mental health counselling, and nutrition services to its communities. 

HST’s HIV interventions are supported by the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) and the Mumbai District AIDS Control Society (MDACS). Through public health systems and in-house clinics, HST delivers essential HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and care services to MSM and transgender communities.

Project NETREACH – Overview 

Project NETREACH is a digital HIV intervention designed to reach high-risk and key populations through virtual outreach and online engagement. The project aims to bring digitally active but underserved populations into the ambit of the National HIV Programme. 

NETREACH is supported by The Global Fund (GFATM), with India HIV/AIDS Alliance as the Principal Recipient. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Serve as a coordination point between internal teams, partner organisations, agencies, and other external stakeholders 

  • Support the planning, execution, and documentation of communication and outreach activities, including: 

    • Influencer and digital creator collaborations 

    • Press and media engagements 

    • Brand and institutional partnerships 

    • Collaborations with app-based and digital platforms

    • Engage with communities across digital platforms to support outreach, campaign visibility, and information dissemination 

  • Create communication materials such as posters, reels, short videos, and other social media creatives; basic video editing skills are an advantage 

  • Monitor and track media coverage, digital trends, and campaign performance across platforms 

  • Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation related to communication activities and outcomes 

  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of offline and online events, including campaigns, launches, and stakeholder meetings 

 

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in communications, marketing, digital media, or a related role 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, media studies, or a related field 

  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines 

  • Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders, agencies, or partners 

  • Basic understanding of public health, development communication, or social sector campaigns is an advantage 

  • Proficiency in content creation tools such as Canva and social media design/video tools 

  • Strong written communication skills, with experience writing for: 

  • Social media 

  • Websites 

  • Newsletters 

  • Press releases 

  • Ready to work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
