Background: 

Founded in April 1994, The Humsafar Trust (HST) is India’s first community-based organization (CBO) of self-identified homosexual men, MSM, Hijras and LBT persons. The HIV interventions of HST are supported by National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) and Mumbai District AIDS Control Society (MDACS) to provide health services to Men who have sex with men (MSM) and Transgender communities every year through Public Health Care delivery systems and its In-house clinics. HST organises advocacy workshops for health care provides, law enforcement agencies, judiciary, legislators, politicians and political parties, Government bodies, media, student community to sensitise them on Gay, MSM and TG issues. HST also provides legal support, crisis management, mental health and nutrition counselling to its communities. 

 

The Humsafar Trust has been awarded the Sub recipient of the Global fund Project, “Reaching the Missing Million – A virtual approach”. This project aims to fast-track national HIV response to reach first 95 targets, by reaching key populations (high risk groups, at risk adolescents and youth, men, and women with high-risk behaviours) through virtual platforms. Job Description : Counsellor cum Virtual Navigator (CVN), NETREACH  

Key Responsibilities: 

The main role of the Counsellor cum Virtual Navigator is to engage with key and vulnerable populations on virtual platforms by providing information on health and HIV prevention messages and refer those identified with high-risk behaviours for HIV testing, treatment, and care.  

  

  • Promote project NETREACH at various social networking sites, provide information on safer sex practices, facilitate clients to self-assess their HIV risk through the online link at NETREACH web portal, provide support for HIV/STI testing and other prevention methods and link with appropriate services in govt and private health care providers.  

  • Guide and help the clients for booking their appointment in their nearest / convenient health facility for HIV testing by using online referral services of NETREACH system.  

  • Provide support to the referred clients to access HIV/STI testing services and follow up with them to know their testing status. Also coordinate with Labs/ ICTC where clients are referred for HIV test, as required.  

  • Refer clients for additional services such as counselling, SRS, crisis support, livelihood, social entitlements, and other community services to appropriate facilities.  

  • The CVN is expected to facilitate risk assessment on a regular basis through one-to-one outreach, respond to lead generation referrals provided through NETREACH media campaign.  

  • Continuously assess the changing dynamics of at-risk population operating on virtual platforms including identifying the emerging virtual platforms to engage with the community.  

  • Regular reporting and documentation of engagement, service referrals and linkages.  

  • Carrying out any of the duties which fall within the broad scope and mandate of Project NETREACH. 

Skill & knowledge enhancement 

  • Undertake appropriate training as required within the NETREACH and elsewhere as directed by Project Directors. 

  • Refer to NACO publications for updated HIV prevention, care and treatment protocols. 

  • Carrying out any of the duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope, and purpose of NETREACH. 

Qualifications, Experience and competencies – 

  • Qualification up to a minimum Std 12th is essential. 

  • Display a clear commitment to the community work. 

  • Two years of relevant experience in HIV or health care sector. 

  • Should be internet savvy. 

  • Knowledge of working on social networking sites various net-based forums is mandatory. 

  • Good Communication Skills 

  • Ability to speak and write in English, Hindi; and additional knowledge of  regional language or other regional languages is a plus.
