Background:
Founded in April 1994, The Humsafar Trust (HST) is India’s first community-based organization (CBO) of self-identified LGBTQ+ persons. HST’s Advocacy & Inclusion vertical engages with communities and stakeholders to promote the meaningful inclusion of LGBTQ+ persons. Through outreach with corporates and other workspaces, it has been helping create inclusive environments, supporting incidents of discrimination, designing policy change, and setting up partnerships with over 75 organizations across India. Additionally, HST organizes awareness and sensitization workshops for healthcare providers, law enforcement agencies, judiciary, legislators, politicians and political parties, government bodies, media, and student communities to sensitize them on LGBTQ+ issues. HST’s Advocacy & Inclusion vertical implements various initiatives to empower LGBTQ+ youth that shape the course of the movement.
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Advocacy Officer will be responsible for implementation, coordination, documentation, and visibility of advocacy initiatives at The Humsafar Trust. The role supports program delivery, stakeholder coordination, donor compliance, and community engagement, while contributing to training, sensitisation, and crisis response under the guidance of the Advocacy Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
• Implement advocacy project activities as per approved plans, timelines, and budgets.
• Coordinate logistics, scheduling, and execution of advocacy meetings, trainings, consultations, and events.
• Maintain detailed documentation of activities, outcomes, case studies, and learnings.
• Support utilisation tracking, invoices, vendor coordination, and finance documentation.
• Coordinate with community collectives, networks, consultants, and partner organisations.
• Support Youth Initiative and Queer AFAB initiative activities, meetings, and community engagement.
• Assist in preparation of donor reports, presentations, and internal updates.
• Support creation of visibility materials including social media content, reports, toolkits, and event documentation.
• Ensure donor branding, organisational visibility, and communication guidelines are followed.
• Support sensitisation trainings for corporates, institutions, media, and other external stakeholders.
• Assist in crisis response through referrals, documentation, follow-ups, and coordination with partners.
• Coordinate with internal teams to ensure smooth implementation of advocacy activities.
• Maintain organised records, databases, and files related to advocacy work.
Qualifications & Competencies:
• Clear commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion, community engagement, and rights-based advocacy.
• Street-smart, detail-oriented, and solution-focused, with strong on-ground coordination skills.
• Independent, proactive, and able to manage responsibilities with minimal handholding.
• Passionate about working with LGBTQ+ communities and responsive to evolving community needs.
• Well-informed and curious about current developments impacting LGBTQ+ communities and inclusion discourse.
• Basic to intermediate financial understanding, with the ability to track budgets, expenses, and utilisation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation, reporting, and stakeholder coordination.
• Ability to plan, analyse, and prioritise workload effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience working on gender and/or queer inclusion initiatives is preferred.
• Proficiency in English and Hindi is required; Marathi or other regional languages are an added advantage.
• Preferred skills and experience in social media handling, documentation, and digital outreach for advocacy purposes.
Compensation:
